Where We Stem From
I'm Katey, a surface pattern and interior designer based in southwestern Colorado and the owner of Wood Lily Designs. Wood Lily Designs is named after a wildflower that grows in the secret nooks of fallen trees across the high meadows of this region.
I live in mountain country: high desert, alpine meadow, and everything scrubby and beautiful in between. The patterns here come from what's actually underfoot in that landscape: barbed wire fences overtaken by weeds, the cracked texture of old adobe walls, muddy trails left by elk moving through a field after rain, wildflowers and feathers gathered on long walks with no destination.
Every collection starts outside. Plants get foraged, textures get photographed, shapes get sketched and painted by hand long before anything is opened in a design program. Only once the material has been gathered and drawn does it move into Adobe Illustrator, where it's built into a finished, repeatable pattern. No AI in this studio! Just hand-drawn, artistic work, all done by me.
The results are designs rooted in a real, specific places, rather than styled to look that way. It's about appreciating the parts of a particular corner that usually goes unnoticed.
I am available for licensing opportunities and commissions.
