Vintage Midcentury
This project centers on creating a cohesive mid-century modern foundation while seamlessly integrating a well-loved and extensive collection of vintage furniture, artwork, and personal photographs. The client wanted a space that felt intentional and elevated, without losing the history, warmth, and character of the pieces she had collected over time. The home was modeled after the Strater Hotel in downtown Durango, so there are high ceiling, cherry wood floors, and decorative trim throughout the home further pulling in that vintage feel that the client is after.
The great room fireplace became the visual and emotional anchor for the home, inspiring a rich green color that carries throughout the space. From there, we developed a mid-century inspired color palette and furniture layout that balanced clean lines with warmth, allowing vintage elements to feel curated rather than crowded.
Rather than replacing existing pieces, the design focused on thoughtful placement, scale, and flow; giving each item room to breathe while creating a layout that feels functional, cohesive, and lived-in. Artwork and personal photographs were intentionally layered to reinforce a sense of story and individuality within the space.
While many rooms in the home are still in progress, the great room offers a preview of the overall direction: a character-rich interior that blends mid-century structure with collected vintage pieces, grounded in color, and designed to evolve over time.
